For many, they stray away from considering a comprehensive window tinting package for fear that they are violating the laws of Seattle and the surrounding communities. You can tint your windows whether you own a daily driver or some other type of high-end vehicle.

Yet even though these products are completely legal, there are rules and regulations that must be followed in accordance with the Washington Department of Transportation regarding their darkness and reflectiveness. Here are those rules:

The darkness of window tinting packages is measured in what is called Visible Light Transmission (VLT), or more simply put, how much natural light is allowed to pass through them into your interior. Vehicles that are on the smaller side, such as sedans, require ALL window tint film pieces to allow for up to 24% VLT, whereas larger vehicles like trucks, vans, and SUVs must only allow for that 24% VLT on the front driver and passenger side windows. Rear windows and the rear windshield can be as dark as you please.

The reflectivity of the window tinting on your vehicle is much more restrictive. For windshields, you can have a non-reflective windshield strip on the upper 6 inches of that surface, while no matter what size vehicle you own, the rest of your tinting must not be more than 35% reflective.
